Learning from setbacks

Learning from problems and obstacles is not always easy, and we all tend to feel defeated as we encounter these obstacles and problems. What I really appreciated about this book is that it looks at these life problems differently: our mistakes are not signs of weakness but learning and growth opportunities. It certainly changes my attitude and helped me see life's challenges in a different light: as challenges to overcome, not problems to feel sad about.

When you are depressed, who do you want to talk to? No one.
Where do you want to go? No where.
Depression hurts and this book helps.
Our mind is our spiritual estate and as such we must look after it, nurture it and take care of it. Depression is a horrible demon and this book can help. Happiness is a state of mind and like all states of mind it can be induced. This book can help. Wonderfully written and carefully thought out, it’s like having a conversation with the author, and at the end, you feel fulfilled, it’s a method to relieve your stress, think and feel better about yourself. It worked for me.

Informative but dry!

This book is very helpful if you are interested in owning a greenhouse for commercial/professional or personal reasons. It covers every subject you can imagine with regards to greenhouse operations, so this is a great guide or reference to have in your library. This book is a bit dry and the author can be repetitive, but if you have any greenhouse question whatsoever, you can trust that the author discussed it in at least 3 places within the book.

Chris Willrich is a science fiction and fantasy writer best known for his sword-and-sorcery tales of Persimmon Gaunt and Imago Bone. Fine, and unsual, fantasy.

Excellent story, primarily good, deep characters. A few too many deus machina moments and the loose ends did not tie up as well as I had hoped, but a very good conclusion to the Imago Bone trilogy.

Not with a bang ...

Another long-running series is by Chris Willrich, and the latest installment of the Gaunt and Bone novels, “The Chart of Tomorrows” (Pyr, $18, 540 pages), is unfortunately a bit of a disappointment. The complex plot devolves into confusion and the revival of characters who appear to be dead, and the charm and wit that elevated the first two books gets lost in a too-long page count.

The characters are still interesting, and the mix of Chinese philosophy and proxies for various medieval cultures (Mongols, Vikings, etc.) move things along, but in the end it seems like Willrich was just trying to figure out a way to finish the book – and apparently finish the series, though the door has not been closed.

As always, it’s easier to put together a great setup than it is to devise a fully satisfying payoff, and that’s exactly what happened to Willrich in “The Chart of Tomorrows.”
